The Canadian skeleton team were cleared of accusations that they deliberately manipulated a selection race for the Winter Olympics, which allegedly denied rival athletes a chance to secure their place.

A prominent American athlete a five-time Olympian alleged the Canadian squad of withdrawing a majority of its competitors from a race in Lake Placid. She claimed this reduced the field, making a lower points pool available. Despite winning the event, Uhlaender did not secure her berth for the Milan-Cortina Games.

“Existing federation regulations permit National Federations to withdraw athletes from an event at any time,” declared the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).
