Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the process of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
